Ewww Frito Feet
If you’ve ever taken a whiff of your pup’s feet and noticed a whiff of Fritos, you’re not alone.

While it may sound strange, your pup’s feet really can smell like Fritos, and there’s a pretty simple explanation for it. The scent that your pup’s feet is giving off comes from a buildup of bacteria and yeast in his paws. Dogs have a tendency to sweat through their paws, which creates a moist environment that is perfect for bacteria and yeast to thrive.
As these bacteria and yeast build up and break down in your pup’s paws, they release a scent that is often described as smelling like Fritos. This scent is actually quite common, and nothing to worry about.
However, if you’re worried that the smell is a sign of an infection, it’s best to take your pup to the vet to be sure. Your vet can check your pup’s paws for signs of infection and prescribe medication if necessary. In the meantime, it’s a good idea to keep your pup’s feet clean and dry.
Now, just because most times when your dog’s feet smell like corn chips are no cause for concern, that doesn’t mean that you should completely ignore it.
Your dog’s paw pads can become a hotbed site for infection, especially if they have injured paw pads, are immunocompromised, or in poor health.
If you notice any of the following signs, it’s best to seek a consultation with your veterinarian to check for infection:
Inflammation
Foul-smelling odor
A cut that doesn’t heal
